Pumping life is easier with the Willow

I've exclusively pumped for a year and could not have done so without the Willow. I didn’t use the Willow as my only pump, and it’s not sufficient to establish supply, but it gave me the freedom to go wherever I wanted without having to worry about finding a place to pump in private. I’ve pumped with it during work meetings, dinners, while cycling and on planes. It’s not perfect but I don’t think there’s any wireless pump out there that is better. Just bought another one to give to my pregnant sister. Pros: - Wireless. - Ability to move freely without the pump leaking. - Easy to clean. Very few parts. - Quiet enough. - Bags, so no need to poor milk from bottles into bags before storing it in your fridge or freezer. - Enough suction strength to (almost) empty your breasts. Cons: - Slightly less output than with a hospital grade pump. - Uncomfortable at the beginning, even at the lowest suction level, but with positioning practice and slight rotation of the pump towards my armpits I was able to pump pain free and even increase the suction strength so I emptied my breasts better. - App could do with some more features and sometimes looses connection with the pump, but this does not affect pumping itself though.

Very unhappy

I am a second time mom with pumping as my bigger source of feeding my children. I have had Medela and Spectra and love both. I decided to purchase Willow for freedom since I have a toddler and a lot of household choirs (7000sq foot home). Let me begin with I have had nothing but issues with Willow. The pain itself and the inaccurate calculations of milk dispensed in both the bags and containers is ridiculous. I have had help from willow as far as coaching after weeks of waiting for an appt. Willow has made my supply drop and use it really during the day when I’m with my kids. I have used it a total of 30 times and now one of the pumps isn’t working. YOU CAN NOT RETURN OR EXCHANGE. So if you would like to basically throw away $500 purchase this; otherwise stick with a Spectra with freemie cups. Very disappointed and sad about this product.

I’ve had this pump since January and I’ve only had maybe 4 sessions that went smoothly. It’s a great pump in theory, but it simply doesn’t work as well as advertised. On my Spectra I can pump over 6 ounces per breast in about 13-18 mins. With my Willow I’m lucky if I can get 4 ounces per breast in more than 25 mins. And then the whole flip to empty thing doesn’t work well and there is always some milk wasted. The bags often get filled with more air than milk which makes it too puffy for the pump and it separates and stops. I constantly get errors about the little flex tube. Sometimes the milk bag gets pinched into the pump and stick so you have to carefully ease the bag out so as not to tear it. This pump is really an utter waste of money and I regret the day I bought it. It actually makes me angry to use it. Please take my advice and don’t make the same mistake I did. If this is your only pump your milk supply will diminish.

Good but needs some updates

For my first baby, I used a standard pump with all the wires and tubes and hated feeling chained up and inconvenienced when pumping. This affected my production as it was hard to relax while pumping. With my second baby, I decided to try the Willow to see if it was a better fit and so far it’s been really good. I’m only a few days into pumping with Willow, but already I feel less stressed and my production has been more consistent and slowly growing. There area some updates that could take the Willow from good to great. First, I want a charging stand that holds and charges both pumps at once. My personal massager has this capability and it was not nearly as expensive as the Willow, so it seems like a big miss. At the very least, the charging cable should be split to charge both pumps simultaneously or the set could come with two chargers. It’s so hard to remember to switch the plug over when I have a newborn and a million things to do. I hate feeling nickel-and-dimed to make the product functional when I’ve already purchased the product. Second, it would be great if the app had some visualization options and/or connectivity with other baby-tracking apps. I’d like to be able to see a chart of my production over time, broken out by breast or time of day and in days/weeks/months etc. The data is already there, just need to add the visualizations to make this truly helpful for helping users plan pumping times and track progress. Finally, I wish the full set was available with the 21mm flanges. I had to start with the 24mm to go through my insurance and it caused some serious discomfort before my 21mm containers arrived. It seems trivial to offer this to customers especially when they’ll still have to buy the containers or more bags to continue pumping.

Love It After Learning Curve

The first few times I tried the Willow I wasn’t sure how I would like it. It took a couple tries to get it aligned right. While I was getting adjusted to the Willow, it seemed like the stimulation phase lasted longer than I would have liked and took longer to get the same amount of milk vs my other pump. I gave it a few days of pumping at work to get my body used to it but did have to pump with my manual pump a couple times to get fully empty. Now that I’ve worked through the learning curve, I love my Willow! I can hook it up and sit with my coworkers in the break room during breaks and lunches without having to isolate in a different room. No one even notices I am pumping. I’m also getting the same amount when I pump than I did with my Medela. I also love the options between the milk collector containers and the bags. The various suction levels make it great to adjust to each side instead of having the same suction for both sides. Great product!

Not what I expected

It is a learning curve for sure. I’m not happy with the fact that I can’t choose the expression level until a certain amount is pumped, and sometimes it’s not accurate. I think if I could change it, I’d pump a lot more than I’m getting. I do like that I can wear it to pump with having a newborn and toddler.

This pump has been a life savor, with 2 kids and being on the go! It make night time pumps while feeding the baby a breeze. It empties me better then my Medela. The only complaint I has is it takes a while to stimulate enough to start pumping.

I was hesitant to buy this pump with all the mixed reviews but really did end up loving it. There is a learning curve, but once you get it down it’s simple. As far as pumping, I’m exclusively breastfeeding and pumping when I can to start a stash for when I go back to work. The pump fits my needs, make sure you get the correct inserts if needed (I got the smaller containers, and inserts due to flange size. Overall, I think the pump is great, I don’t think it’s as discrete as people say (im an A cup regularly) so maybe it just looks weird with the pumps in that I’m not used to having haha. I bought this pump outright, took a chance and definitely paid off. My output is decent per session and I do love the app that goes along with the pump. Likewise, the selling point for me is/was the hands free ability and I couldn’t be happier.

I purchased the Willow go to replace my elvie pump because it was higher rated suction and had the alternative 7oz containers. It has helped my breastfeeding journey so much by provided a much easier way to pump. My only complaint is the tiny hole at the top container, when I drive and it gets super full it sometimes comes out the tiny hole in the top if I hit a bump too hard. But it is SUPER easy to pour because if this hole so…
