Placed it at the top of the stairs with some wall protectors. Works like it is suppose to so far. We do have to be careful not to trip over the lower bar especially when going down the stairs. The gate opening is a little tight, so we have to turn sideways a little when carrying the little one. The release mechanism is also a little creaky, so we have to do it slowly to make sure not to wake the little one.
Without the extender it easily popped off the wall then with the extender it didn’t fit! The metal bars won’t fit in Our doorway of 34.5 inches and it said it would fit up to 38. So do not buy this waste of money and once you put it together you can’t take it apart so I can’t even return this.

This gate is wonderful! Button on top makes easy open. Would DEFINATELY recommend. Fast shipping and great service!

Don’t believe the widest setting, if you try to actually assemble it at that width it’s completely unstable. Plus you have to drill 4 holes into the wall. design of latch is nice and that’s about it also you need a minimum of 2 people to install
I got the gate to keep my dog out of my baby’s room and so far it’s been great. When I first opened the box everything seemed to be in brand new condition. Assembling was a bit confusing but got it at the end of it. For what it’s worth it’s not that bad.

The lock on this gate broke within a month of normal use. My 2 year old can push the gate open with ease. I use it to keep my kids out the foyer which leads to the stairs case. Yesterday my child snuck upstairs and my 9 month old followed up behind. You cannot rely on this gate. I am pretty sure the 9 month old can push it open too, but I have yet to confirm this. I will try putting a slide lock on it, and if not, zip tying it shut. Wish me luck stepping over this thing!!
Product is stained and scratched
The opening for this is a bit narrow. We are using it to keep our children from going down the stairs alone, but because of the small opening and the bar at the bottom, it is a bit stressful getting them down the stairs with us (they are 1 & 3) . Also, the tension part of this made me think that you don't need to drill into the walls but the instructions say that you need to use the "wall cups" that need to be drilled into the wall - kind of defeats the purpose of the tension aspect of it. The person who installed ours did not use the wall cups and so far, it has stayed in place fine. It's been sturdy so far with two little ones and they are unable to use the lock at this point, so we are still somewhat satisfied with the product.
