My baby was unable to suck the milk out
Unhappy0 ·
Recommended Not Recommended

I chose these bottles because I had originally read great reviews on them and wanted to have back up bottles to supplement while breastfeeding. Unfortunately, my baby was unable to get a single drop of milk out of these nipples. After watching my baby struggle, I attempted to try to get the milk out and I (an adult) needed to suck extremely hard. It was no wonder my baby couldn’t do it. More recent reviews I’m seeing in the last month say Philips changed the nipple and other babies are having a similar issue. I am extremely unhappy with this purchase.

Hi, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the Avent Natural Response Baby Bottles. We are sorry to hear of the issue and hope we can help! The Natural Response Nipple is designed to work like a breast for an easy combination of breast and bottle feeding. The nipple only releases milk when your little one actively drinks, in the same way that the breast does. So, when baby pauses to swallow or breathe, the milk flow pauses too. If you’ve tried a few times with no success, it could be a sign that your baby needs another nipple flow. If your baby is coming from a traditional bottle (including our previous Natural Bottle range) they are likely to need higher nipple flows with the Natural Response Nipple because they are used to more milk coming out of the nipple with little effort on their part. If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch with our dedicated Avent Parent and Child Care team on 1-800-542-8368. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further. Hope to speak to you soon! Kind regards, Philips Consumer Care

Hate the new nipples!

I have always loved advent bottles and I’ve recommended them to sooo many people. I went out and bought all new bottles for my TWINS who had been using the prior nipple size 1s. I wasted so much money. These new nipples are terrible. My premies who were going between breast and bottle (which they say these nipples are for babies doing that) they couldn’t get anything out of the nipples. I even went out and bought the next two flows up but they hated them. The rubber also feels harder then the old ones. I’m so upset. I bought the old styles on your website but will likely switch once we go up to a larger bottle.

Hello, Thank you for taking your time to leave this review. We are very sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused to you and your little ones, and we can only imagine how frustrating this might be. Our new Natural Response Nipple lets your baby use their natural drinking rhythm, like they do when breastfeeding. While age is a guidance, we recommend watching your little one’s cues to find the best nipple flow. We designed the nipple range to work for all different of drinking patterns, from fast and enthusiastic to slow and steady. The Natural Response Nipple is available in nipple flows 1 to 5. The flow rate of milk they get from the nipple is linked to how enthusiastically or steadily they drink as they develop. Enthusiastic drinkers use a strong suction and compression while drinking, resulting in greater milk flow, so they usually need a lower nipple flow from the Natural Response range (such as nipple number 1 or 2) to avoid overflow. Slow and steady drinkers are likely to prefer a higher nipple flow (such as nipple 4 or 5), to ensure enough milk flows, regardless of age. You can start with the nipple that comes with the bottle and adjust from there. If after a few feeding attempts you have no success, consider changing to a different nipple flow. You might need a higher flow if you see your baby struggling to get milk out, or playing with the nipple. You might need a lower nipple flow if you notice milk leaking from your baby’s mouth, or fast gulps. Keep in mind that it can take a few attempts for your baby to adjust from a traditional nipple to the Natural Response Nipple and realize they can use the same pattern they use with breastfeeding when bottle feeding too. If you used the previous Natural nipple, your baby may need higher nipple flows with the Natural Response Nipple because they are used to more milk flowing quickly with less effort. If you have further questions, please consider reaching out to us on 1-800-542-8368. Hope to speak to you soon!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My baby boy is 4 weeks and we started him on the bottle combo-feeding since the milk came in on day 6. These bottles are great for papa's feeding shifts because he has bigger hands and likes the ergonomic shape. We like the wide mouth, assisting with late nights as they are easier to pour into. The nipples that came with the set were the slow flow (#2, 1mon+) and fine for about a week, but our hungry gremlin was not a fan so I bought the next size up (#3, 3mon+) which works much better without waterboarding him. The only caveat is that the air vent on the nipple leaks if it's not positioned at the top. We've lost precious milk in the early days before figuring out that was the culprit. Cleaning is easy, 4 parts, not too complicated. Again, the wide mouth is ideal for the baby brush - especially when pulling out of the bottle, it doesn't spray soap all over. Baby doesn't seem to have any issues with this nipple, latch is good and there is no nipple confusion. He alternates bottle to breast seamlessly, so there's no need for us to explore other bottles. We will likely add a few more to the collection, but not the blue ones because it's harder to see how much is left towards the end of the feed. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby bottle set. I loved the shape and the ease of cleaning when it comes to these bottles. I felt like these bottles helped slow down my sons feedings which in turned helped with spitting up. I do feel like my baby would get upset while feeding from these bottles however that is no fault to the bottle. He just likes to eat as much as possible as quickly as possible. Again thanks stellar product testing panel for providing me with this opportunity.

Nice bottle shape but nipple too slow

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved the wide bottle shape (and pretty pink color!) but the nipple itself was too small and slow for my baby. She became frustrated with how slow the milk came out and really wasn’t able to actually successfully feed from this bottle at all. The bottles were easy to clean! I received these bottles as part of the stellar product testing panel!

Hi Anna, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the Natural Response Baby Bottles. We are pleased to hear that the bottles are convenient to clean! Sorry though that your daughter has not been able to successfully feed, and we hope we can improve the experience for both of you. Good bottle for babies who need a slower flow

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bottle works fine but my baby didn’t take to them. For whatever reason he didn’t like the flow of the milk and got fussy. I don’t know if he just wasn’t working hard enough to get enough out but he seemed impatient while drinking out of this bottle like he couldn’t get anything out of it. The bottle design is nice otherwise and super easy to assemble and clean. It’s unfortunate my son didn’t take to these. I received this product to review as part of Stellar Product Testing.

Confusing nipple sizing
MommyPeacock04 ·

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the product through the Stellar Product Testing Panel! I’ve used Avent bottles for my last 3 babies, this baby we tried out this new version of the bottle. It’s very similar to the original version. For a 4 oz bottle it was confusing that it came with a size 2 nipple because usually you start with a lower number. I expected it to come out too fast for my newborn, it did not. It did the opposite, it took him forever to finish the bottle, he really had to work for it so he would fall asleep a lot more during feedings. The bottle also seemed to rub onto his nose a lot, leaving a mark. He'd have to suck so hard you had to take the bottle out to let the nipple go back to the right shape. The bottle was easy to put together and clean, with very few parts, and love the 4 oz size design. It just didn’t make sense to start with a 2 with a newborn and it still be too hard for them to drink from. That was our personal experience. The picture shows that it would get bent and sucked into at times and not stay its shape.

Hi, Thank you for writing your review, your opinion is highly valued. We're sorry to hear that you found that your baby was having issues getting the milk out! In this case, as your baby seem frustrated, fall asleep or play with the nipple instead of drinking, we recommend taking a step up. Additionally, for optimum performance, pinch and massage the number on the nipple between index finger and thumb prior to a feed. If this doesn't improve your experience, please reach out to us on Social Media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/Philips ) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/philipscare). Great bottles with one minor complaint

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given this baby bottle set to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel And it couldn’t have come at a better time. We had been using the Advent Anti-Cholic bottles and love them but we’re getting tired constantly washing them and we’re going to buy another 3pack. Overall impressions on the 4oz Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottle With Natural Response Nipple- 3 pack were great with one caveat which isn’t a dealbreaker for me, but slightly annoying. I can’t see how much milk is left in the bottle when I feed my baby close to me in my arms. The bottle is not entirely clear, is a little opaque and with the milk sheen, the tall white screw top piece, and the shallowness of the nipple because of its shape I can’t always see how much misplaced is left. This is important to me because my child is gassy, and we struggle with burps so any extra air that he swallows can be an issue. I have to keep pausing towards the end to see how much is left and end up wasting some milk each time because he refuses to finish if I pull the bottle out early. All that being said I am going to be purchasing the 9 oz version of these when he gets to that point. Pros: - solid bottle sized perfectly for larger hands like mine - clear volume markings even with milk or water - bottle feels like glass but has the weight of plastic - baby really likes the wider latch area on the nipple - flow rate is consistent with other Avent nipples - easy transition baby from standard Avent anti choking bottle to Natural bottle and Nipple Cons: - tough to see how much milk is left if you are holding baby close to body due to how opaque the bottle is, the shallowness of the nipple, etc.
