We were given a soothie in hospital when my daughter was born and our little one definitely took to it. I like that it was a cleaner option to using a finger to help her soothe. A couple of things that were frustrating though. Firstly, when we went looking for these in stores we were unable to find the same style as the one she'd gotten in hospital (with the notch in it for her nose). Secondly, the shield is so heavy that it readily falls out of her mouth. We tried other styles of pacifiers that have different shields and while they stay better in her mouth she still prefers the shape of the Soothie.

Soothie was our preference until our 9 months old woke up screaming last night with her thumb stuck inside. Luckily we were able to extract it before there was any damage. Her circulation returned quickly but her thumb was white from lack of blood flow. The soothie is relatively new, no more than a few weeks old. We’ve been using them since birth and hadn’t experienced this problem before. Something to watch out for!

I was thoroughly impressed with these pacifiers when my daughter was young. It was a great bridge between nursing and when I needed to switch her over to a bottle.
