Great project! MamaWinkler ·

I LOVED doing this with my first pregnancy that I did another one for my second! I also had a ton of fun with my mom while making it, which helped us bond and gave us an excuse (not that we needed one) to spend time together. I also took both casts to each of my baby showers and had my guests sign them as they would a guestbook. Afterwards I hot glued ribbon to the back and hung in each of my children's rooms. I do have some suggestions on how to go about doing your project that might be helpful...... 1. Have a helper!!! This is a MUST! I don't see how a person could possibily do this project alone. Someone will have to be the one to place the strips along your belly in order for it to come out correctly. 2. Wear an old bra or sports bra and panties or shorts that you don't mind getting dirty. (I wore an old sports bra and old panties). I also HIGHLY recommend rinsing these garments OUTSIDEwith your water hose before putting them in your washer or hand washing. You should also wash these garments completely separate from your other clothing. Another option would be to simply toss these garments out when you're finished with the project if that's what you choose to do... 3. Make sure to use a plastic drop cloth to cover your work space and area that you will be sitting/laying in as you could potentially ruin flooring and/or surfaces. 4. Make sure you're in a comfortable position to have your helper cast your belly as you'll be in this position for the duration of the project. I recommend sitting in a chair at an angle with a p or laying down on the floor with a pillow under your elbows to keep you propped up. I did both positions and one wasn't any better than the other in my opinion... Also, I was 35 weeks with my first casting and 34 weeks with my second, so finding a comfortable position in general is next to impossible. Ha Ha. 5. During the project with both castings I noticed that the cast would start to 'lift' off my belly as it started to dry... I found this to be normal. Just continue doing what you're doing until you're completely finished with your cast and gently remove and place in a safe place for it to dry. 6. If you're going to have guests sign your belly cast as I did, I recommend using whatever marker you want. I personally chose to use colored markers that matched the color scheme of each child's bedroom decor. So for my first belly cast I used regular Crayola markers, but for my second, I used a permanent paint pen thinking it'd make a difference, but it didn't. So you can use Crayola markers or a permanent marker, which ever you prefer to use or have on hand! :) I hope my suggestions/advice help you out a little. I think every mother should have a cast of her belly! They are so much fun to make! Plus showing it off to friends and family is the best as most haven't ever seen such a thing or even heard of a 'belly cast' before! So have fun with it and personalize it however you want! This is YOUR project! Express yourself! Good luck and congratulations! xo

I personally do not like to give negative reviews but want this to be more of a warning on what to be prepared for. By the 4th purchase we realized that lack of humidity may have been the problem. We live in AZ. The humidity was in the mid 20's. As a last attempt we ended up purchasing a humidifier specifically for this project. The final time we put ourselves in the smallest enclosed space with the humidifier running before we started and during the process and got the best outcome that we felt was possible. There should be a disclaimer on the product to warn others. Not every one can repurchase kits over and over until they can get a better result. There were many strips in all of the boxes that didnt have near enough plaster to actually spread smoothly to cover the strip itself. There are little holes that you are trying to cover. Make sure mom-to-be is comfortable sitting. It can take an hour plus. Also the person doing the project needs to be comfortable & aware that it is not as easy as the tutorials make it look. Watch as many YouTube vids as possible to get ideas on how to work with the product. The one that helped me the most was one I laughed at saying the husband was over enjoying the rubbing of the product onto his wife. I was wrong..it was more than necessary. Lol Go slowly and methodically. If you try to hurry because of how fast the product dries you will not like the final product. Dont let that intimidate you. Keep rewetting your hands and work on the smoothing. Smaller strips worked better for that so you could focus on getting it as good as possible before moving on. Do not rely on thinking the sanding will make it all better. 5 adults agreed the sanding was worthless and just exposed the threads of the strips with little smoothness. By the 4th kit we were too afraid to do the sanding as mom was on 39 weeks and time was of the essence. Do not expect perfection. Finishing idea that helped cover the imperfections is to pick a cute tissue paper that has the pattern you want. Tear off pieces and wad them up to create crinkles. Then use modge podge to attach. Practice on the inside of the cast first so you can get the look you are after. The modge podge and paper going over the edges strengthened the integrity of where our layers of strips were thinner as well. All in all once we jumped over the hurdles we were happy with the final product. However, I hope the company does look at the issue of lack of humidity and more plaster per strip.

It’s easy to make. Great way to spend quality time with your husband and children. It’s really fun to make. However, it is pretty messy

This was really fun to do! My husband and I made the mistake of not looking up ideas/videos of other belly casts until after we completed ours and realized we liked the way others did them so we’re going to do another one for fun! Do some research before you start! I wish this set came with the prime and seal like other brands do! But overall it Dried fast and it was a fun project to do together!

Fun & Messy Mrs Zee ·

I promised myself if I ever had a baby I would do one of these to capture my tummy in time. My husband and I had fun doing it but it was quite messy. A drop cloth is provided to avoid ruining any furniture. This would also be a fun project if mommy and daddy had other children to assist them.
