I go to sleep every night with the sound of ocean waves, gentle rain, gentle thunder or a babbling brook. The previous version of the Homedics Sound Machine lasted about 10 years and I had to get a new one. How many things last 10 years these days? I was pleased to see a couple of added sounds and a timer with optional periods of time to select. This little machine eases me into restful sleep but I am sure you could use it for other things as well. Also a great bargain!
The sound loop on this thing is about 5 seconds, even for the "white noise." It actually keeps me awake, anticipating the sound loop. I have to pile socks on top of the speaker to muffle the little sounds that repeat every 5 seconds. I know there are apps that I can put on my phone and/or tablets (we have them for when we travel) that are better, but I don't leave those devices in our room at night. You may not hear it or may be able to ignore it - I just wanted everyone to be aware.

Nice compact unit lightweight with appropriate sound changes. Small drawback is time setting indicator light remains on after unit shuts off overall would buy it again.

I enjoy the subtle background sounds when I'm going to sleep! It's nice to have a little sound when relaxing or even in my office when working.

I have really bad insomnia. Just thought I'd try this. I usually need complete silence and darkness to finally get a little sleep. I use the rain setting. Keep it kind of low. And I have gotten the best sleep. It's small. So it will be very easy to put in my suitcase when I'm traveling. Which is quite often. I am pleased.
This sleepmate is the best! The sound is perfect to help you sleep! I love that it has a battery backup in case the power goes out!

This item broke within a month of having.. hadn’t been a full 60-days and there is no replacement option.. I ordered on 10/30 and it was delivered on 11/3.. quit working within 2 weeks I guess due to wiring issues. Don’t waste your money or try to deal with customer service!!!!!
Good features, sounds and volume levels. Unfortunate that the knob is difficult to turn. The back half of the knob is "inside" the casing which means you can't grab the entire knob which makes it hard to turn with one hand without scooting the whole sound machine around on the dresser. Not a deal-breaker, but a bit frustrating.
