This backpack is great for going on family hikes and was easy to assemble. Our son was 7.5 months and about 20 pounds when we started using it. Because its winter, he has to be very bundled up when he’s in there so it’s even harder to buckle the already difficult straps. I’m also not sure my husband or I would be successful trying to use this without the other one to help get it on, but you might be more confident than we are. Once my son was in, he was cozy enough to take a nap and barely made a beep. My only criticisms are the buckle and I wish the sun visor offered more coverage.

I really wanted to love this carrier, but unfortunately I do not. It is heavy on my back and difficult to get my 1.5 year old in and out of. It’s also too big to pack in a suitcase and bring on a vacation. Maybe it would work better for other people, just doesn’t work for me and what I planned to use it for.

Mandy, thanks for the feedback. The Chicco SmartSupport Backpack Baby Carrier weighs only 5.3 lbs. fully equipped. For the price ($129) we think you'd be hard pressed to find any frame carrier that is lighter weight than Chicco. If you want a carrier that can be put in a suitcase, we suggest a soft carrier, not a frame carrier.
I searched high and low for a carrier that would work for my family. I have a much larger carrier from a different brand but it was just too bulky for short spur of the moment hikes. After reading other reviews for this carrier, I knew it would work for us. We needed a no frills carrier that was lightweight and easy to load in a small car. This pack is very durable and sturdy. I love the sun shade that is included. my toddler has no issues with it and seems very comfortable while hiking with us. if you need a light weight hiking backpack carrier this is all you need. My toddler is 25lbs 32" tall and has plenty of room. this pack is comfortable to wear and adjusts easily so that my husband and I can take turns wearing it. 10/10 would buy again.

We took our 22 month old for a moderate hike and this carrier delivered. She was comfortable with no complaints for the 2 hours she was in the carrier and my husband was comfortable with her on his back! This is certainly going to be an essential item for us this summer! I do wish it had a compartment to carry diapers but for the price no complaints!
