First published in 1945, the children’s book “The Three Railway Engines” is today the basis for a multi-media franchise. In 1984 the animated Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends made its broadcast debut in the U.K. where it was an instant success; by 1989 it made its American debut on Public Broadcasting Service. In 2003 the popular program was renamed Thomas & Friends®. Decades later, the storyline continues to revolve around a group of feisty and adventurous train engines, each with their own unique character and personality; the popular franchise encompasses a wide range of children’s products including toys, children’s clothing and bedding. Popular products include push toys, ride-on toys, stacking toys, educational toys and toddler toys; clothing and wearables such as socks, toddler briefs and slippers; educational aids including learning series books and memory games; pop-up tents and more.
