Founded in New York in 1924 by Richard L. Simon and M. Lincoln Schuster, Simon & Schuster is today one of the four largest English-language publishers and publishing houses in the world. The business came about when Richard Simon’s aunt, a fan of crossword puzzles, wondered if there was a book of crossword puzzles that she might be able to give to a friend; discovering there was not, Simon joined forces with Schuster to launch a company to capitalize on the opportunity. Today the business remains a preeminent publisher of crossword puzzle books; in addition, it produces and publishes a wide variety of paper products including children’s books, wall calendars and weekly planners. The children’s book line includes traditional board books, interactive lift-the-flap books and classic board books by distinguished authors and illustrators. The parenting line offers includes pregnancy guides for curious parents-to-be, toddler parenting guides and more.
