When a new mother was unable to find a teddy bear with a combination of nostalgic charm and a modern sense of whimsy, she set out to create what she saw in her mind’s eye. After perfecting some sample bears, she decided to build a business and in 1978, North American Bear Co. was launched. Today the business remains a family affair, with her brother serving as the CEO in the company’s Chicago corporate headquarters while she holds the title of Creative Director and runs the New York studio in the heart of Manhattan’s Toy District. The business is staffed primarily by women, most of whom are moms; products include bears, dolls and two-dimensional soft toys. Notable selections include baby boy dolls, little princess dolls and the Rosey Cheeks™ collection of soft jersey cotton dolls; designed to help your child learn the value of caring for and playing with others, the dolls have embroidered facial features.
